Chapter 15 - THE CHARITY OF GHOSTSThree weeks after the arrests, a massive envelope arrived at the Manhattan headquarters of New York Family Health & Shelter—one of the largest nonprofit organizations dedicated to supporting recovering mothers and infants in crisis.

Inside the envelope was a certified cashier's check for fourteen million dollars.
There was no signature. No return address. Just a single, neatly typed note attached to the front:
To those who protect the helpless when the world looks away.
A debt repaid in full. Use it to keep the warmth on.
— A Grateful Father.
The executive director of the charity stared at the check in absolute disbelief, calling financial auditors immediately to verify its authenticity. Within an hour, the funds cleared, designated entirely for emergency medical care, housing, and nutrition for postpartum mothers in desperate need.
When Viktor handed me the confirmation report in my office, he raised an eyebrow.
"Fourteen million, Boss? That was half of the offshore liquidation from your mother's seized corporate shell accounts."
"Consider it karmic balancing," I said, looking out the window at the bustling streets of New York below. "My mother stole fourteen thousand dollars to starve my wife. I’m giving fourteen million back to save a thousand others. The universe respects balance, Viktor."

"And the remaining funds?" Viktor asked.
"Put them into a trust fund for Liam. By the time he turns eighteen, he won't need to inherit an empire of blood—he'll inherit a legacy of protection."
