Chapter 6 - THE RENT IS DUEMy mother gasped, clutching her chest as if she had been physically struck. "You... you wouldn't! We’re your family! You can't throw your own mother onto the street!"

"Watch me," I replied coldly.
At that exact moment, two large moving trucks and a team of county sheriffs pulled up to the curb. Viktor stepped out of the lead vehicle, holding a stack of eviction notices and court-ordered property seizures.
"Boss, the house is cleared for repossession," Viktor announced loudly, walking up the steps. "All personal belongings belonging to Eleanor and Chloe Vance have been packed into standard cardboard boxes and placed on the public sidewalk."
"No! No, you can't do this!" Chloe shrieked, sprinting toward the front door. But Viktor casually stepped in her path, extending a massive arm that blocked her entry.

"You’re a monster, David," she hissed, her voice shaking with rage. "You chose a nobody over the mother who raised you. I hope that brat of yours turns out just like you—alone, hated, and cursed!"
I stepped close enough that she could see the cold, unyielding fury burning in my eyes.
"If you or Chloe ever come within five miles of my wife, my son, or my home again," I whispered softly into her ear, "you won't have to worry about being evicted from a house. You'll be visiting Mark in a federal prison cell."
Without another word, I turned my back on them, walked down the steps, and climbed into the waiting Escalade.

As we drove away, I looked in the rearview mirror. My mother and sister were standing on the frosty sidewalk, surrounded by cardboard boxes, screaming curses into the empty morning air.
