Chapter 19 - THE UNBROKEN VOWSBy spring of 2027, our new life in Park Slope felt as permanent as the earth beneath our feet.

We decided to renew our vows—not in a grand, ostentatious ceremony filled with fake friends and underground syndicates, but in a quiet, intimate gathering on a private beach in Montauk, attended only by the few people who had stood by us when the world burned.

There was no white silk suit for me, just a linen shirt rolled at the sleeves. Maya wore a simple, elegant ivory dress that caught the ocean breeze like a sail.

As we stood beneath a simple wooden arch draped in white lilies, holding hands against the backdrop of the crashing Atlantic waves, the minister asked the traditional question:

"Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, through sickness and health, through storm and calm, for as long as you both shall live?"

I looked into Maya’s eyes—eyes that had stared into the abyss and found the courage to look back—and felt a profound wave of peace wash over my soul.

"I do," I said firmly, sliding a simple platinum band onto her finger.

"And do you take this man..."

"I do," Maya whispered, her voice steady, clear, and filled with unshakeable devotion.

When we kissed, the ocean spray misted our faces, and somewhere in the distance, a flock of gulls soared high into the open, endless sky. The past was buried beneath the sand. The future was ours to write.
