Chapter 8 - The Bloodstained CourtyardThe night air outside the Moretti compound was a chaotic warzone of flashing red and blue police lights, burning rubber, and the sharp, terrifying cracks of automatic gunfire.

Rico Moretti moved through the smoke like an angel of death. His tailored Brioni suit was stained with soot and blood, his bespoke jacket discarded, his sleeves rolled up to reveal corded muscles and a jagged scar across his forearm. In his right hand, a suppressed pistol smoked gently.

"Boss! East wing perimeter has been compromised!" one of his enforcers shouted over the roar of a burning vehicle in the courtyard. "Maroni’s hit squad bypassed the electronic gates!"

Rico’s heart stopped beating. The east wing. That was where Clara and Leo were.

"Dante!" Rico roared, his voice cutting through the gunfire.

"Dante’s down, boss! Took a round to the shoulder, they've got him pinned near the main stairwell!"

Rico didn't hesitate. He broke into a dead sprint, ignoring the bullets pinging off the stone pillars around him. His mind was entirely consumed by a singular, terrifying thought: If they touch my son, I will burn every inch of Maroni’s empire to ash and salt the earth where it stood.

He vaulted up the grand marble steps of the entrance hall, two at a time, kicking open the double doors to the east wing suite.

The bedroom was wrecked. Glass shattered everywhere, furniture overturned, the heavy oak door blown off its hinges. Two of Maroni’s elite enforcers were searching the room, rifles raised.

They didn't even have time to turn around.

Rico raised his pistol with cold, lethal precision. Two muted thuds echoed through the room. Both men dropped instantly, collapsing motionless onto the Persian rug in pools of dark blood.

Rico rushed to the center of the ruined room, his eyes wild with panic. "Leo! Clara!"

Silence answered him, save for the crackle of distant flames.

Then, he heard a faint, familiar cough coming from the open fireplace.
