Chapter 26 - Navigating the LabyrinthIsabella descended the concrete fire stairs in total darkness, guiding herself by trailing her hand along the cool metal handrail. She reached the sub-basement level where the university's historic archives and mechanical systems were housed.

Her mind raced. Julian wanted revenge for his uncle, but he wasn't operating alone; he had used Stanford's network to infiltrate the campus grid. If she could reach the main university mainframe room, she could override the electronic locks and broadcast an emergency distress signal to Marcus.
She slipped through a heavy, louvered maintenance door into the sub-basement corridors. Pipes hissed with steam overhead, casting long, distorted shadows across the concrete floor.
Footsteps echoed behind her—heavy, deliberate, and closing fast.

Isabella ducked behind a row of oversized archive shelving units, holding her breath as the beam of a tactical flashlight swept across the floor inches from her shoes.
