Chapter 28 - The Ultimate ChoiceIsabella’s hands shook as she gripped the edges of the console. They had Marcus. The man who had given her a home, a family, and a second chance at life was now a hostage because of her.

"Let him go, Julian!" Isabella screamed into the mainframe microphone. "Marcus has nothing to do with this! It's me you want!"

"Oh, I want you both," Julian replied smoothly over the speaker. "Come up to the main reading room on the top floor. Alone. No weapons. No tricks. Or I give the order to eliminate Marcus right here on the steps."

Isabella stared at the monitor, watching Marcus struggle against his captors on the cold stone steps of the quad. She thought about the warehouse, the rainy night, the babies she had saved, and the family that had embraced her as their own.

She took a deep, steadying breath. Fear vanished, replaced by an unbreakable resolve.

She pulled a small, hidden emergency GPS tracker out of the lining of her jacket—a backup Marcus had forced her to sew in—and pressed it firmly against the underside of the server rack, setting its frequency to continuous pulse.

Then, she unlocked the mainframe door and walked out into the corridor, heading up the stairs toward the final confrontation.
