Chapter 29 - The Unwritten Horizon

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the Atlantic Ocean in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and gold, I sat on the wooden swing overlooking the cliffs, watching the children play tag on the lawn.
Arthur walked over, placing a soft woolen shawl over my shoulders against the evening coastal breeze.
"Penny for your thoughts?" he asked gently, sitting on the bench beside me.
"I was just thinking about that night," I murmured, resting my head against the wooden slats of the swing. "Standing in the dark snow outside the closed boutique in Greenwich. Holding a single suitcase. Believing my life was entirely over."
"You thought an ending had found you," Arthur said quietly. "You didn't realize it was just the prologue."

I reached out, placing my hand over his aged, weathered fingers. "Thank you, Arthur. For stopping your car."
"I told you before, my dear," Arthur smiled, his eyes twinkling in the twilight. "I only stopped because I recognized a queen."
