Chapter 19 - The New HorizonAs the calendar officially flipped to January 1st, 2027, the dawn of a new era broke over New York City.

The bitter cold of winter felt entirely different this year—not a threat, but a reminder of the warmth we had fought so hard to protect. My industrial machinery firm in Germany had just closed its largest international expansion contract to date, securing our financial future for generations, but wealth no longer defined my measure of success.

My real wealth was sitting on the living room rug.

Liam had finally worn himself out from chasing his red balloon and had fallen fast asleep right in the middle of the floor, curled up under a thick, warm cashmere blanket, breathing softly with absolute peace.

Maya’s parents had gone back to their guest room upstairs, leaving the house wrapped in a gentle, comforting silence.

Maya and I sat side-by-side on the sofa, sharing a cup of hot spiced cider, watching the dying embers of the living room fire crackle softly in the hearth.

"So, Mr. Sterling," Maya whispered with a mischievous glint in her eyes, leaning over to rest her chin on my shoulder. "What's our master plan for this year?"

I turned, looking into her bright, beautiful eyes—eyes that had survived betrayal, pain, and the darkest winter of our lives, only to emerge stronger and more radiant than ever.

"No master plans," I smiled, wrapping my arm securely around her shoulders and pulling her flush against my chest. "Just living. Just loving each other. And making sure our son grows up knowing what a real family looks like."

Maya smiled, a deep, radiant expression of pure, unadulterated joy, and pressed her lips softly against mine.
