Chapter 4 - The Sunrise Raid at South BeachAt 7:30 AM on January 1st, 2026, the Florida sun was beginning to glitter off the turquoise waters of Biscayne Bay, casting a golden glow over the ultra-exclusive Setai Hotel in South Beach. Inside a luxurious ocean-view suite costing over two thousand dollars a night, Eleanor Sterling was fast asleep in a king-sized bed wrapped in Egyptian cotton sheets.

Her peaceful slumber was abruptly shattered by heavy, authoritative pounding on the suite door.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

"Hotel security! Open up immediately!" a gruff voice commanded from the hallway.

Eleanor groaned, throwing off the duvet and wrapping her silk robe around herself. Muttering curses about rude hotel staff and inferior service, she marched across the marble floor and jerked the door open, ready to unleash a torrent of high-society fury.

Instead of a hotel bellman, she found herself staring face-to-face with two uniform Miami Beach police officers flanked by a hotel manager holding a clipboard.

"Mrs. Eleanor Sterling?" the lead officer asked, his hand resting casually on his utility belt.

"Yes? What on earth is the meaning of this?!" Eleanor snapped, standing tall and crossing her arms. "Do you know who I am? My son is a wealthy international businessman—"

"Mrs. Sterling, you are being detained pursuant to a fugitive warrant and interstate cooperation order issued out of the New York Police Department," the officer interrupted, stepping past her into the suite. "You are being charged with reckless endangerment, elder neglect of a post-operative patient, and child endangerment."

Color drained entirely from Eleanor’s face. She staggered backward, her knees hitting the edge of the glass coffee table.

"That’s... that’s absurd!" she shrieked, her voice cracking in pure terror. "It was a family misunderstanding! Where is Mark? Where is Chloe?!"

"Mr. Mark Vance and Mrs. Chloe Vance were detained in the lobby five minutes ago trying to use a credit card that was flagged as stolen property," the officer replied coldly, snapping steel handcuffs around Eleanor’s frail wrists. "Turn around, please. Hands behind your back."

At that exact moment, down in the hotel lobby, Mark and Chloe were standing near the concierge desk surrounded by three burly hotel security guards and another pair of police officers.

"This is harassment!" Mark bellowed, his face turning purple as he struggled against an officer pinning his arm behind his back. "You can't do this! We’re guests here! David! David is going to sue every single one of you!"

Chloe was sobbing hysterically mascara running down her cheeks, clutching her Louis Vuitton handbag as an officer read her her Miranda rights.

"Shut your mouth, Mark," Chloe wailed between gasps. "I told you we shouldn't have left her! I told you David would find out!"

"You didn't care when you were buying those designer shoes yesterday!" Mark hissed back angrily, forgetting for a second that he was in public.

The hotel manager watched the spectacle with a look of supreme disgust, handing the officers a printed ledger of their unpaid incidentals and room service charges.

"Mr. Sterling called the front desk thirty minutes ago," the manager announced loud enough for the lobby guests to hear. "Their accounts have been permanently blacklisted, and all personal luggage left in the rooms is being impounded as evidence in a criminal fraud investigation."

Within twenty minutes, Eleanor, Chloe, and Mark were being loaded into the back of a black-and-white police cruiser, their designer sunglasses replaced by steel bracelets, headed straight for the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center to await extradition to New York.
