Instead, Evelyn drove Lily and Noah to their winter tutoring program, sharing quiet laughter in the car over ridiculous radio commercials—a small, ordinary moment of joy that Grant’s chaotic presence had always crowded out.
Later that morning, she met with Rebecca Shaw at a quiet downtown café to finalize the final dissolution paperwork.
"Everything is completely settled, Evelyn," Rebecca said, sliding a sleek final folder across the table. "Grant’s defense team attempted to file an injunction to contest the residential trust transfer, but Judge Holloway threw it out within five minutes due to the documented financial fraud and unambiguous quitclaim clauses."
Evelyn accepted the folder, tracing her fingers across the embossed cover. "And the corporate restructuring?"
"Completely finalized," Rebecca smiled warmly. "Arthur Bell and the board ensured your personal equity protection was preserved in full. You are completely financially independent, and Grant’s access to any family assets has been legally severed forever."
