Chapter 7 - The Unseen Savior

Upstairs in the private family parlor, the atmosphere was vastly different. Clara sat on a velvet sofa, cradling her newborn son against her chest, weeping softly as she kissed his tiny forehead over and over again.

Elena stood nearby, nervously wringing her hands, while little Sophia sat quietly on a footstool, staring wide-eyed at the luxurious surroundings.

The heavy double doors opened, and Rocco walked in. His black suit jacket was off, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing powerful forearms scarred from decades of gang warfare. Yet, as he approached the sofa, all the hardness melted from his expression.

He sat down beside Clara, wrapping his arms around both her and the baby, burying his face in her dark hair. For several minutes, no one spoke. The silence of the mansion was no longer a symbol of cold control; it was a sanctuary of survival.

When Rocco finally pulled back, his dark eyes found Sophia sitting quietly on the footstool.

He reached into his pocket, pulled out a thick leather wallet, and extracted a black card embossed with gold foil—a key that opened doors in every major financial institution, high-end boutique, and elite institution across the country.

"Sophia," Rocco said, his voice softer than the maids had ever heard it sound.

The little girl stood up immediately, stepping forward with respectful caution. "Yes, Mr. Moretti?"

"You saved my son's life tonight," Rocco said, holding out the card. "In my world, debts are always paid. This card has no spending limit. Whatever school you want to attend—anywhere in the world, from primary school to university—is fully covered by the Moretti family. Your mother’s position is elevated to head estate manager, with a lifetime pension."

Elena gasped, covering her mouth with her hands as tears welled in her eyes. "Oh, Mr. Moretti... we couldn't possibly—"

"You earned every bit of it, Elena," Rocco said firmly. He looked back at Sophia. "What do you say, little one? Do you accept?"

Sophia looked at the card, then down at the baby sleeping peacefully in Clara’s arms, and finally up at Rocco. She didn't take the card immediately. Instead, she asked a question that made the mafia boss pause.

"Will he be safe now?" she asked quietly.

Rocco looked at his son, then at Clara, and finally toward the heavy doors leading to the west wing where Valentina was locked away. A fierce, unbreakable light burned in his eyes.

"Nobody will ever touch him again," Rocco vowed. "Not in this house. Not anywhere."

Sophia nodded solemnly, reached out small fingers, and took the card. "Thank you, sir."
