Chapter 9 - A New Dawn at the Estate

Three months later, the Moretti mansion felt entirely different. The oppressive, sterile silence that had once defined the halls was replaced by the soft, normal sounds of life: a baby’s playful cooing, footsteps echoing lightly on the polished marble, and the distant, warm laughter of a family finally healing.
Clara walked down the grand staircase, holding the baby—now named Leo—against her shoulder. He was growing fast, his dark eyes bright and curious, inheriting his father’s intense gaze without the shadows of fear.
In the sunlit conservatory, Elena and Sophia were organizing fresh floral arrangements. Sophia was holding a heavy textbook on international law, reading a paragraph aloud while her mother smiled proudly.
Rocco stood by the French doors, looking out over the sprawling gardens where security patrols were active, but unobtrusive. The empire was secure. The traitors were locked away in federal penitentiaries where they would never see the light of day. The enemies who had tried to undermine him from within had been swept away like dust.
He felt a soft touch on his arm. He turned to see Clara smiling up at him, Leo resting comfortably in her arms.
"You're thinking too hard," Clara murmured, resting her head against his shoulder.
"I was just thinking about how close we came to losing everything," Rocco admitted, his hand coming up to gently stroke his son’s tiny hand. "And how a barefoot eight-year-old girl walking on cold marble saved our entire legacy."
"Sophia didn't just save Leo," Clara said softly, looking across the room toward the young girl who was now laughing as Elena playfully tapped her nose with a flower. "She saved us. She reminded you that not everyone in this world can be bought, measured, or betrayed."
Rocco looked at his son, then at Clara, and finally toward the garden where the morning sun was burning away the last remnants of the night’s shadows.

"She has a permanent place in this house," Rocco said, his voice carrying absolute finality. "As long as a Moretti breathes, Sophia Bellini will never want for anything."
And for the first time in his life, the most feared man in the underworld smiled—not a warning, not a threat, but a genuine smile of peace.
