Chapter 15 - The Secret Document

With Julian Jr. detained and the offshore transfer scripts neutralized by our cybersecurity task force, the underground vault fell into a profound, heavy silence. Brandon exhaled a long, shaky breath, leaning against the cold concrete wall to steady his nerves.

"Remind me never to play poker with you, Elena," Brandon muttered, wiping sweat from his forehead. "You had me convinced for a minute that he actually owned the company."

"He studied the old texts, but he forgot to check the modern updates," I replied, holstering my sidearm and turning back toward the glowing terminal.

As the system administrators began wiping the server cache, a single encrypted file flashed on the screen—a file that hadn't been accessed by Julian Jr., but was automatically unlocked upon his arrest. It was labeled simply: The Origin Ledger.

Curiosity overriding caution, I tapped the physical console, downloading the file directly to my secure tablet.

The screen displayed a series of scanned, handwritten journal entries dating back forty years—written by my own father.

I scrolled through the pages, my breath catching in my throat as I read the agonizing confessions written in my father’s familiar, elegant script. It wasn't just a corporate history. It was a confession about how Vance Global had truly been founded.

My father, Arthur, and Marcus hadn't started the company together as equal partners. They had stolen it from a brilliant female engineer and mathematician named Clara Vance—my true maternal grandmother, whose existence had been systematically erased from family history when Arthur and Marcus staged their original corporate takeover and seized her patents.

The empire I had fought so hard to reclaim wasn't built on legitimate enterprise. It was built on theft, betrayal, and a hidden bloodline debt that had been passed down through generations.

Brandon looked over my shoulder, his eyes widening as he read the final paragraph on the screen.

"Clara Vance..." Brandon whispered, stunned. "Our grandfather didn't build this company. He stole it from our own bloodline."
