Chapter 7 - The Uninvited Guest

From the dim corridor stepped a tall, silver-haired man wearing an expensive custom trench coat, carrying a leather briefcase identical to the one Julian used to haul his corporate secrets.
He looked terrifyingly familiar. The same sharp jawline, the piercing dark eyes, and the thin, predatory smile that I had only ever seen in historical company portraits locked away in the corporate archives.
"Very impressive, Elena," a smooth, gravelly voice echoed through the bedroom. "I always knew Julian was a weak-willed idiot, but I severely underestimated his wife. It takes a truly exceptional predator to dismantle a fifty-year corporate dynasty in less than forty-eight hours."
I kept the firearm steady, leveling the barrel squarely at his chest. "Arthur is under house arrest, and Julian is behind bars. Who the hell are you to walk into my house uninvited?"
The man chuckled softly, stepping closer into the amber glow of the bedside lamp. He reached up and slowly pulled down the collar of his coat, revealing a distinct, jagged scar running down the side of his neck—a mark that didn't appear in any official company records.
"Allow me to introduce myself properly," he said smoothly. "I am Marcus Vance. Arthur’s older brother... and Julian’s real biological father."
The room seemed to tilt on its axis.
For thirty years, the official company history stated that Arthur Vance was an only child who inherited the enterprise from his father. Julian had always claimed his family lineage was simple, respectable, and entirely transparent.
"You're dead," I said coldly, keeping my finger resting lightly against the trigger. "The corporate archives state the elder Vance line ended decades ago."
"Paper trails are remarkably easy to rewrite when you control the board of directors," Marcus smiled, setting his briefcase down on the edge of the new oak bed. "Arthur and I built Vance Global from the mud up forty years ago. But when Arthur grew greedy and wanted sole control, he staged a coup against me, locked me away in a private psychiatric facility overseas, and erased my existence from the corporate registry."

He took another step forward, ignoring the muzzle of the gun pointed directly at his heart.
"Julian was my son, Elena. Sent into your family's inner circle to infiltrate your father's legacy from the inside out. When you married him, you didn't just marry a corporate climber—you walked right into a decades-old trap designed to reclaim the controlling shares of Vance Global."
