Chapter 16 - The Truth Unveiled

The discovery of Clara Vance’s journal changed everything. The multi-billion-dollar empire I was running, the sleek towers downtown, the wealth that had caused so much bloodshed, greed, and trauma—it all belonged rightfully to a woman who had been erased from history by the very men who claimed to be self-made visionaries.
I didn't hesitate. I didn't try to hide the documents or bury them back in the vault.
At 8:00 a.m. the following morning, I called an emergency press conference in the main auditorium of Aegis Global Enterprises. Hundreds of journalists, financial analysts, and television crews packed the room, cameras flashing like a constellation of angry stars.
I stood at the central podium, wearing a simple white blouse and a dark blazer, looking out over the sea of eager faces.
"Good morning," I began, my voice steady, clear, and unyielding. "Today, Aegis Global Enterprises is undergoing a fundamental transformation. For decades, this institution has been built on a foundation of stolen labor, corporate deceit, and the deliberate erasure of true innovation."
A stunned silence fell over the auditorium. Flashbulbs paused. Reporters leaned forward, pencils and recorders poised in breathless anticipation.
"Through newly recovered historical archives, we have confirmed that the foundational patents and capital of this enterprise were originally engineered and owned by Clara Vance—a brilliant mathematician and engineer whose contributions were violently suppressed by the founding partners fifty years ago."
I paused, looking directly into the primary camera lens broadcasting live across the nation.
"Effective immediately, fifty percent of all voting shares and corporate dividends of Aegis Global will be permanently transferred into the Clara Vance Foundation for Women in Technology and Industrial Innovation. Furthermore, every corporate asset tainted by the criminal investigations surrounding the Vance family will be redirected toward survivor advocacy, research grants, and financial restitution."

An uproar of shouting questions erupted from the press corps, but I didn't stay to answer them. I turned away from the podium, stepped off the stage, and walked out the side exit into the bright morning sunlight.
The heavy burden of the Vance name had finally been lifted.
