Chapter 12 - THE SECRETS OF THE PAST

The stranger at the gate turned out to be an elderly, frail woman wearing a heavy black woolen coat despite the Florida heat. When Marcus brought her into the security annex under armed guard, she revealed a weathered leather pouch containing faded adoption records, medical intake logs from a defunct Miami clinic, and a birth certificate bearing a startling name: Luna Vance-Sterling.
Richard stared at the paper, his breath catching in his throat. "This is impossible. Luna is an orphan from the marina district."
"She was an orphan because Viktor Vance ordered her mother erased six years ago," the old woman whispered, her voice trembling as she clutched a handkerchief. "I was a nurse at the clinic where Luna was born. Viktor’s own younger brother fell in love with a local marine biologist who opposed the cartel's illegal dumping. When they tried to escape with the child, Viktor had them eliminated. But I smuggled the baby out and hid her in the marina before they could finish the job."
Marina gasped, covering her mouth with her hands. "My God... Luna isn't just a random homeless child who saved us. She’s Viktor Vance’s blood niece."

The realization hit Richard like a physical blow. The syndicate hadn't targeted him purely for port supremacy. They had targeted his entire operation because little Luna—the homeless girl they had welcomed into their hearts and legally adopted—held the biological master-key to the Zurich cartel’s hidden trust funds, which were legally willed to the brother's surviving heir.
By saving Richard’s family on that fateful evening at the marina, Luna had unknowingly stepped directly back into the crosshairs of her own blood relatives.
