Chapter 5 - THE CONFESSION OF A TRAITOR

For three long seconds, Arthur didn't move.
Then, slowly, a dry, bitter laugh escaped his lips. He leaned back in his leather chair, crossing one leg over the other, completely dropping the act of innocence.
"You always were too thorough for your own good, Richard," Arthur sneered, his tone turning venomous. "I built this company with you fifteen years ago. I stayed in the trenches while you took all the credit, all the wealth, and all the glory. You think you earned Sterling Atlantic? You rode my logistics models straight to the top!"
Richard’s fist clenched so hard his knuckles turned white. "So you decided to murder my wife and my eight-year-old son? You planted a bomb under my boat to settle a corporate grievance?"
"I didn't want them to die," Arthur spat back defensively, though his eyes flashed with cold malice. "Well... maybe Marina. But the boy was just collateral damage. The real objective was simple: eliminate the CEO right before the port merger is finalized, throw the company into chaos, and install a sympathetic board member—like me—to take over operations. The syndicate in Zurich financed the whole buyout. I was going to be a billionaire, Richard. A real billionaire."
Before Arthur could finish his sentence, the boardroom doors flew open with a crash.
Two armed federal marshals and four Fort Lauderdale police officers swarmed the room, their tasers and cuffs drawn.
"Arthur Pendelton, you are under arrest for attempted domestic terrorism, conspiracy to commit murder, and corporate espionage," the lead federal agent stated, grabbing Arthur by the shoulders and jerking him out of his chair.
As the cold steel cuffs snapped around Arthur’s wrists, he glared back at Richard with unabated hatred. "You think arresting me stops it, Sterling? The syndicate doesn't leave loose ends! They wanted that port, and if they couldn't get it through a merger, they'll get it through blood!"
As Arthur was dragged kicking and screaming out of the boardroom, the reality of his parting words settled over the room like a heavy shroud.

The bomb on the yacht hadn't just been a localized assassination attempt. It was part of an international conspiracy.
And Richard’s family was still in the crosshairs.
