Chapter 14 - The Unraveling AllianceWhile Carter rotted in solitary confinement, the collateral damage of his downfall was rapidly dismantling the remaining fragments of his former inner circle.

Khloe sat in a cramped, subterranean coffee shop in downtown Manhattan, staring blankly at an eviction notice taped to her phone screen. Her designer clothes were long gone, replaced by thrift-store denim and a worn-out jacket that offered little protection against the autumn chill.
Across the small laminate table sat Arthur Vance, a former senior vice president of Sterling Technologies who had once laughed alongside Carter when I was banished to row five.
"We need to file a joint whistleblower petition, Khloe," Arthur muttered, aggressively stirring a cup of bitter black coffee. "If we cooperate with the federal investigators and testify about how Carter systematically cooked the corporate books to inflate the Apex Dynamics valuation, we might avoid prison time."
Khloe let out a harsh, humorless laugh, her eyes burning with bitter hatred. "Cooperate? With what evidence, Arthur? Carter destroyed every physical ledger before the raid. And as for the digital trails, Samantha Sterling owns the entire forensic auditing team. She’s ten steps ahead of us always."
"Then what are we supposed to do?" Arthur hissed, leaning across the table, his face pale with panic. "We’re blacklisted across every tech firm in the country! My bank accounts are frozen, my mortgage is in foreclosure, and every time I walk down the street, I feel like federal marshals are about to slap cuffs on me!"
"We made a bad bet, Arthur," Khloe whispered, her voice trembling as a single tear traced down her cheek. "We thought we were hitching our wagon to a tech god. Turns out we were just riding a sinking anchor thrown overboard by a queen."

Before Arthur could reply, the door of the coffee shop chimed as two men in dark federal suits walked in, their eyes scanning the room before locking directly onto their table.
Khloe closed her eyes, her head dropping into her hands. The bill for her ambition had finally arrived.
