Chapter 17 - The Unseen ArchitectThree months passed in a blur of unprecedented corporate growth and international expansion.

Inside my private executive suite on the fiftieth floor of the Apex-Sterling tower, I sat reviewing the final quarterly audit reports. The numbers were staggering—our net revenue had surged by over three hundred percent, cementing our position as the undisputed economic titan of the new decade.
Marcus knocked softly on the open mahogany door before stepping inside, holding a thick sealed envelope stamped with federal seal marks.
"A final dispatch from the federal prosecutor's office regarding the Carter Sterling case," Marcus said, placing the envelope neatly on my desk.
I set my golden fountain pen down and slid the envelope open, extracting a single official document.
"He tried one last desperate plea for a presidential commutation," Marcus noted, crossing his arms. "Claimed he was an innocent victim of corporate espionage orchestrated by his ex-wife."
I scanned the bold text of the federal denial order, noting the finality of the judge’s ruling. Carter’s sentence had not only been upheld, but extended by another five years due to his attempted cyber-attack from inside the prison block.
"He still doesn't understand," I murmured, folding the document neatly and sliding it into my private archives. "He thinks his downfall was a conspiracy against him. He still refuses to admit that he was simply an empty vessel who mistook the ship's captain for cargo."

"Some people spend their entire lives running from their own mediocrity," Marcus replied quietly.
"Let him run against prison walls," I said, standing up to look out over the sprawling city below. "We have an entire future to build."
