Chapter 6 - The Scramble of the RatsWithin forty-eight hours, the myth of Carter Sterling’s self-made brilliance imploded publicly across every major financial news network.

The financial journalists who had spent years anointing him the 'Silicon Valley Golden Boy' now scrambled to publish explosive exposés revealing the truth: that Sterling Technologies was nothing more than an empty corporate shell whose entire technological infrastructure belonged entirely to me.
Inside the temporary lobby of a budget motel on the outskirts of the city, Carter sat staring blankly at a television screen broadcasting his own downfall. His phone—once flooded by adoring investors, sycophantic employees, and media interview requests—now buzzed exclusively with notifications from bankruptcy lawyers and creditors threatening immediate legal action.
The door to the dingy motel room creaked open, and Khloe walked in carrying a cheap plastic bag filled with convenience store snacks. Her designer handbag was gone, replaced by a frayed canvas tote.
"Carter, we need to talk," Khloe said, her voice completely stripped of the teasing, sultry tone she had used on the private jet just days ago. "My landlord locked me out of my apartment this morning because my corporate card bounced. And my lawyer says if I’m tied up in your corporate fraud investigation, I could face federal indictment for insider trading regarding the Apex Dynamics deal."
Carter didn't look up from the television. His eyes were bloodshot, his hair unwashed, his expensive suit jacket discarded on the stained carpet.
"Get out," Carter muttered, his voice dead.
"Excuse me?" Khloe snapped, her veneer of submission instantly vanishing. "Get out? I stayed late every night helping you cook the books, Carter! You promised me a VP position once the acquisition went through! You're a pathetic fraud who couldn't write a line of code without your ex-wife holding your hand!"
Carter suddenly lunged forward, grabbing a heavy glass ashtray from the nightstand and hurling it against the wall inches from her head. "I said, get the hell out of my sight before I ruin whatever miserable life you have left!"

Screaming curses, Khloe slammed the door behind her, abandoning him completely in his wreckage.
Carter buried his face in his hands, finally breaking down into jagged, helpless sobs. But there was no one left to comfort him. No secretary to peel oranges. No wealthy wife to quietly bail him out of the fire he started.
