Chapter 2 - The Billion-Dollar BlackoutAt thirty-eight thousand feet, high above the Atlantic coastline, the mood inside the private jet was euphoric. Glasses of vintage Dom Pérignon clinked together as regional directors and vice presidents toasted Carter Sterling’s latest triumph—the imminent acquisition of Apex Dynamics, a deal that would supposedly cement Sterling Technologies as an undisputed industry titan.

Khloe sat regally in my former seat, her fingers lightly brushing against Carter’s arm as she leaned in to whisper something that made him chuckle. Across the aisle, Carter’s mother, Evelyn, beamed with malicious satisfaction, loudly recounting to the chief financial officer how "some people simply lack the breeding to handle high-society pressure."
Carter took a sip of his champagne, his gaze drifting toward row five where he expected me to be stewing in silent humiliation. Seeing only an empty seat—since I had already exited the plane—a flicker of annoyance crossed his face, but it was quickly washed away by the adoring smiles of his sycophantic staff.
"Let her walk home," Carter scoffed, waving a hand dismissively. "Maybe a few hours of waiting for a commercial taxi will teach her some humility. She’s gotten far too comfortable spending my money."
At that exact second, the cabin’s ambient lighting flickered violently from warm gold to a harsh, blinking crimson.
A sharp, automated warning chime echoed through the intercom system. The gentle hum of the jet's advanced navigation displays suddenly died, replaced by a blinding wall of static across every digital screen in the first-class cabin.
"What the hell is happening?" the CFO stammered, dropping his champagne flute as it shattered against the imported Italian carpet.
Carter’s phone, resting on the mahogany armrest, buzzed furiously. Then, every single phone belonging to the executives in the cabin lit up at the exact same moment.
Carter snatched his device, his thumb swiping frantically to unlock the screen. But instead of his usual trading dashboard, the display flashed a single, blood-red icon: a stylized phoenix burning into ash, accompanied by three chilling words flashing in bold text: ACCESS DENIED. ASSETS FROZEN.

"This... this is a mistake," Carter muttered, his face draining of all color as he tapped frantically on his banking app. The balance on his primary corporate account flashed from nine figures to a flat, unforgiving $0.00.
"Carter!" Khloe shrieked, her phone vibrating off the edge of her tray table. "My corporate card just got declined at the boutique lounge! And... and look at the company intranet! Everything’s gone!"
