Chapter 14 - The Siege of Mount Rainier"Daddy!" Lily screamed, scrambling off the cot as red laser sights cut through the darkness of the tunnel, painting the concrete walls with a grid of lethal precision.

"Get under the steel workbench!" Damian roared, snatching an old heavy-duty iron crowbar from the tool rack.

Through the tunnel doors swarmed a dozen autonomous Aegis combat drones—sleek, quad-rotor units equipped with non-lethal acoustic paralyzers and tactical capture nets. Behind them marched three gray-suited human operatives, their faces obscured by mirrored tactical visors, moving with robotic synchronization.

Bruno launched himself into the fray before the first drone could clear the threshold. With a ferocious leap, the seventy-kilogram Cane Corso batted a mid-air drone out of the sky, crushing its rotor blades in his powerful jaws before slamming into the chest of the lead operative.

The operative crumpled under the dog's massive weight, his rifle clattering across the concrete floor.

"Damian! The terminal!" a synthesized, modulated voice echoed from the lead operative's communications rig. It wasn't a stranger's voice. It was Sophie’s voice, broadcast remotely. "You can't delete the network. The servers are decentralized across orbital satellites now. Pressing Omega will only kill your daughter!"

Damian’s finger hovered over the keyboard. He looked back at Lily, who was huddled safely beneath the heavy iron table, clutching her stuffed rabbit.

"Don't listen to them, Daddy!" Lily cried.

Damian’s jaw set into a hard, unyielding line. He slammed his fist down not on the 'Y' key, but on the physical manual eject button, ripping the micro SD card out of the terminal slot.

"If the network wants my daughter's DNA," Damian yelled toward the security camera mounted in the corner of the bunker, "come and take it yourselves!"

He grabbed the heavy industrial wrench, shattered the CRT monitor into a million glass shards, and scooped Lily up into his arms.

"Bruno! Fall back!"

The massive dog backed away from the downed operatives, snapping viciously at the remaining drones as he retreated toward the emergency ventilation shaft at the back of the bunker.
