Chapter 5 - The Bloodline ProtocolDamian sprinted out of the closet, past the groaning intruder, and dove through the narrow gap in the titanium security shutter.

The grand hallway of the east wing was shrouded in darkness, save for the emergency strobe lights flashing a dull, rhythmic crimson. The air smelled faintly of ozone and expensive French perfume—Sophie’s scent.
"Sophie!" Damian shouted, his voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings and ancient family portraits lining the corridor. "If you touch my daughter, I swear to God I will hunt you across the ends of the earth!"
"She's not hurting her, Mr. Vance."
The voice came from the shadows beside the ancestral portrait of Damian's grandfather—the founder of Vance Industries.
Step by measured step, Miller emerged from the darkness. He wasn't holding a weapon. Instead, he held a sleek, military-grade tablet displaying a complex matrix of green biometric code scrolling at blinding speeds. Behind him stood Sophie, her maid’s uniform pristine again, holding Lily’s hand.
Lily looked calm, her eyes slightly glazed, staring fixedly at a small silver pendant hanging around Sophie’s neck—a pendant that was emitting a faint, high-pitched hum.
"Hypnotics?" Damian muttered, horror freezing his blood. "You drugged my daughter?"
"We saved her," Sophie corrected softly, her voice devoid of the nervous stutter she had worn in the bathroom. The frightened maid act was completely gone, replaced by the chilling composure of a high-ranking intelligence operative. "Lily’s genetic structure carries the master encryption key for the Aegis Neural Network. Your father didn't build a tech company, Damian. He built a hive-mind network designed to override human free will. And he coded the master decryption sequence directly into his bloodline."
Miller tapped the tablet screen. "Elena found out two years ago. She tried to wipe the mainframe. That’s why we had to stage her drowning. But she was smart—she hid the physical backup on your favorite dog, knowing you’d eventually find it when you checked on the animal."
Damian’s mind raced. Every instinct screamed at him to lunge, to tear them apart with his bare hands, but his limbs felt heavy, sluggish. A subtle, sweet aroma hung in the ventilation air—a synthetic neurotoxin designed to sap motor functions within minutes of exposure.
"Why... why tell me all this?" Damian breathed, his knees buckling slightly as he leaned against the marble wall for support.

"Because, Damian," Sophie said, stepping closer and gently brushing a stray lock of hair from Lily’s forehead with genuine maternal tenderness, "the network requires a biological sacrifice to complete the final upload. And the system has already selected its new administrator."
Bruno bounded out of the shadows behind Miller, his tail wagging softly, perfectly calm, as if he had been on their side all along.
