Chapter 3 - The Ghost in the VentilationThe metallic scraping sound above them grew louder, rhythmic and deliberate, like metal dragging against industrial ductwork.

Bruno’s hackles stood completely on end, a low, murderous growl vibrating from deep within his muscular chest. The massive Cane Corso wasn't just alert anymore; he was locked into predator mode.
"Up," Damian ordered sharply, hauling Sophie to her feet by her arm while scooping Lily into his free arm. The little girl whimpered, clutching her stuffed rabbit. "Move toward the glass shower enclosure. It's reinforced ballistic glass. If anything drops from that vent, stay behind me."
Sophie stumbled backward, her fair skin completely drained of color. The traditional maid headpiece had slipped askew, revealing strands of damp brown hair plastered to her forehead. "Mr. Vance, please... you don't know who you're fighting. It's not just Miller. The board, the investors, the entire security infrastructure—they’ve been building a shadow protocol inside this company for five years. Your father started it, and you inherited it."
Damian froze, his hand tightening around the small micro SD card in his pocket. "My father? My father built this empire on clean manufacturing and tech development."
"Your father built a surveillance state," Sophie spat back, her voice cracking with hysterical defiance. "Every smart device, every biometric scanner, every medical monitor in this mansion—it's all tied to an off-site black-ops server owned by Aegis Global. Elena found out that the company wasn't manufacturing consumer electronics. They were weaponizing neural-link software. That’s why she died, Damian. And that's why Lily has a tracker embedded in her medical records."
The words hung in the air, heavier than the titanium shutters sealing them in. Damian stared at the maid, the pieces of a horrific puzzle snapping together with brutal clarity. His wife hadn't been depressed. She had been targeted.
CRASH!
The heavy iron ventilation grate in the ceiling blew inward, showering the marble floor with shards of galvanized steel and black dust.

Before a figure could drop through, Bruno exploded upward. With a athletic leap that defied his massive weight, the Cane Corso lunged straight into the dark shaft, his jaws snapping shut on thick tactical fabric. A muffled, agonizing scream echoed from inside the duct, followed by the sound of a heavy body sliding against metal and plunging down into the adjoining walk-in closet.
"Stay here!" Damian ordered Sophie. He ripped the heavy brass towel rack off the marble wall, using it as an improvised crowbar, and sprinted toward the closet door.
