The private security alarm on my desk began to pulse with a silent, urgent red light.
I pulled away from Gabriel, walking swiftly over to the terminal. A decrypted intercept from an encrypted international frequency flashed across the screen.
Gabriel stepped beside me, reading the text over my shoulder.
“Evelyn Vance is moving. Destination: Geneva. She has secured backing from the European syndicate council for a final retaliatory strike.”
Gabriel’s jaw tightened into a rigid line. "She thinks she can run to Europe and rebuild."
"No," I said, tapping the keyboard as I traced the digital funds transfer associated with her escape route. "She's not running. She's liquidating her final offshore accounts to fund a localized hit squad. She's coming back here. To New York."
Gabriel looked down at me, a dangerous, cold smile forming on his lips.

"Then we don't wait for her to land," Gabriel said, his voice ringing with absolute finality. "We book a flight to Geneva tonight. We finish this on international soil."
I nodded, feeling the rush of adrenaline steady my hands. The cleaner had become the auditor, and the auditor was about to settle the final account.
