Chapter 6 - The Safehouse BetrayalThe speedboat cut through the dark, choppy waters of the Hudson River without running lights, slipping like a ghost toward an abandoned shipping warehouse in Red Hook, Brooklyn. This was Elena’s private sanctuary—a place where she laundered money and met with her corporate conspirators.

As the boat bumped gently against the rotting wooden pier, Carmine cut the engines. The silence of the warehouse district was broken only by the rhythmic crashing of polluted waves against the concrete pylons.
"Carmine, secure the perimeter. No one leaves," Gabriel instructed, drawing a suppressed 9mm pistol from his holster and checking the slide.
"And me?" I asked, staying low in the passenger seat.
Gabriel looked down at me, hesitation flickering in his eyes. "You stay right here in the boat. It's too dangerous inside."
"I found the thread, Gabriel. I decoded the financial ledger. I'm not staying behind in the dark while you walk into a trap," I retorted, my voice unwavering.
Gabriel let out a short, sharp breath that sounded almost like a laugh. "God help me, you're as stubborn as I am." He handed me a small, lightweight snub-nosed revolver. "Keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot. If I say run, you run toward the water."
We crept off the pier and slipped through a rusted side door of the massive warehouse. Inside, towering stacks of shipping containers cast long, eerie shadows under flickering fluorescent bulbs.
From somewhere deep within the cavernous space, voices echoed.
"...I don't care about the explosion! Did you confirm the bodies?"
It was Elena’s voice, sharp and frantic.
"The east wing is completely destroyed, Elena," Julian Vance’s voice replied, sounding unnaturally calm as he poured a glass of scotch. "Even if Gabriel miraculously survived the poison, no one survives a direct C4 blast in a stone corridor. The syndicate is ours. Once we liquidate his overseas accounts tomorrow morning, we control everything."
"And what about the cleaner?" Dr. Cole’s nervous voice chimed in from the corner. "The girl who pulled the stitches? What if she talked to someone?"
"She was with him in the library," Elena snapped, pacing across the concrete floor in her emerald silk dress. "She's buried under tons of rubble right along with my dear brother. Stop sweating, Cole. You got your two million dollars. Now shut up and drink."
Gabriel stepped out from behind a towering stack of steel crates, his pistol raised and steady.
"She didn't bury easily, sister," Gabriel's voice boomed through the warehouse, cold as an avalanche.
Elena froze mid-step. Julian dropped his scotch glass, the crystal shattering on the floor with a sharp crack. Cole let out a high-pitched squeak of pure terror, stumbling backward into a stack of empty crates.

Elena slowly turned around, her face twisting from shock into a mask of pure venom.
"Gabriel," she hissed, her voice dripping with poison. "You cockroach. You just won't die, will you?"
