Chapter 20 - The Legacy

Five years after that freezing winter morning when an old man in a wheelchair raised his hand for the first time, the grand gates of the Moretti estate stood wide open—not to keep enemies out, but to welcome families in.
The former servant's quarters in the basement had been completely demolished and rebuilt into the headquarters of The Lily Foundation, a world-renowned sanctuary and advocacy center providing financial independence, legal defense, and safe housing for vulnerable mothers and children across the globe.
On a bright, warm Saturday afternoon, the sprawling estate lawns were filled with laughter, music, and the bright chatter of children playing games.
I stood on the grand marble front porch, wearing a flowing emerald-green summer dress, watching five-year-old Lily chase a golden retriever across the emerald grass with unbridled joy.
Beside me, Giovanni Moretti stood tall and proud, leaning slightly on a polished mahogany cane rather than a wheelchair, taking steady, independent steps in the warm sunshine.
Lorenzo walked out of the double oak doors, stepping up behind me and wrapping his arms securely around my waist, resting his chin comfortably on my shoulder.
"Thinking about where we started?" Lorenzo asked softly, pressing a gentle kiss to my temple.
"Sometimes," I smiled, leaning back into his embrace. "It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come from scrubbing those floors on my knees."
"You never had to scrub those floors, Clara," Lorenzo murmured, his voice thick with deep, enduring love. "You were always meant to own this house."

Giovanni walked over, stopping right beside us, a proud, fatherly smile lighting up his weathered face. He raised his wooden cane, not in anger or accusation, but in a quiet, triumphant toast to the bright blue sky above.
We didn't need to look back at the darkness of the past anymore. The silence was broken. The monsters were gone. And our story was just beginning.
