Chapter 15 - The Lion in the Penthouse

Julian Whitmore stepped into the foyer, his silver hair neatly combed, his eyes scanning the luxurious expanse of the penthouse with a predatory chill that reminded me entirely too much of Margaret.

"Clara," he said smoothly, sliding his hands into his pockets as Marcus stepped out of the hallway with his hand resting near his holster. "Put the gun away, son. I’m not here to start a war. I’m here to finish one."

I walked out of the study, keeping my posture straight and my expression completely unreadable. "You are trespassing, Julian. And you are violating a federal restraining order."

"A restraining order that my dear sister-in-law and nephew were too incompetent to protect themselves against," Julian chuckled, taking a slow step forward. "Margaret was a fool. She thought she could control the Whitmore empire by crushing you under her heel. She didn't realize that external enemies are manageable—it's the internal rot that destroys a dynasty."

"Get to the point, Julian," I said, my voice cutting through the spacious room like a blade. "Why are you here?"

Julian set his leather briefcase on the coffee table and popped the latches. He pulled out a thick stack of corporate documents bearing international stamps.

"Raymond and Margaret are rotting in prison, but the underlying offshore assets of the Whitmore shipping lines were never fully seized because they were tied up in Swiss trusts," Julian said, looking at me with a calculating grin. "Trusts that I legally control as the senior surviving male heir. Unless... you and I make an arrangement."
