Chapter 9 - Three Little Miracles

The hospital room in Manhattan was filled with the soft, sweet scent of baby lotion and pale pink roses.

Arthur stood by the bassinet, looking down with a grandfatherly expression that completely contradicted his terrifying reputation on Wall Street. In the hospital bed, I held three tiny, perfect bundles swaddled in soft white cotton.

Two boys and a girl.

They had my auburn hair and, as the nurses gleefully pointed out, an unmistakable spark of stubborn resilience in their dark, blinking eyes.

The door to the private suite clicked open. A legal courier stepped inside, handing me a final, crisp envelope bearing the federal court seal.

I opened it with one hand while cradling my daughter against my chest. It was the final decree: the complete dissolution of the Whitmore corporate entity and the transfer of all remaining assets, titles, and holdings directly to the Clara Whitmore Foundation for Maternal Health and Corporate Justice.

Raymond and Margaret were currently sitting in their respective cages, stripped of power, wealth, and legacy, while the heirs they had tried to prevent were safely breathing the Manhattan air.

"Well, Clara," Arthur said softly, pouring himself a cup of water from the bedside pitcher. "What’s the first thing we teach the heirs of a rebuilt empire?"

I looked down at the three tiny faces resting against my heart, smiling as my son let out a tiny, defiant yawn.

"We teach them never to pack a suitcase for someone else's house," I whispered.
