Chapter 5 - The Public Execution

"Take your hands off my future wife, Raymond," Arthur said smoothly, stepping between us with the effortless authority of a man who owned the room down to its foundation.

Raymond scoffed, his gaze snapping back to me with absolute contempt. "Your wife? Arthur, have you lost your mind? She’s a washed-up gold-digger I threw out of my house for infertility! She signed the papers weeks ago. You’re harboring a legal nobody."

The flashbulbs of a dozen opportunistic gossip reporters suddenly went off in our faces. Someone shouted a question from the press rope line: “Mr. Whitmore, is this your ex-wife? Is there a dispute over the divorce?”

I didn’t flinch. I gently pulled back my velvet wrap, letting the rich fabric fall away to reveal the unmistakable, undeniable curve of a very advanced pregnancy. At six months with triplets, my body could no longer hide the miracle growing inside me.

The entire ballroom gasped. Whispers exploded into a deafening roar.

Raymond stared at my stomach, his eyes wide with sheer, unadulterated horror. "No," he whispered, stepping back as if I were a ghost. "That’s… that’s impossible. The doctors said—"

"The doctors your mother paid off to declare me barren so you could groom a younger corporate asset?" I interrupted, my voice ringing clear and cold across the silent hall. "Surprise, Raymond. I’m not barren. And I’m carrying three legitimate Whitmore heirs."

Margaret pushed through the crowd, her face pale with fury. "Lies! This is a staged stunt! A cheap prosthetic to trap my son!"

"Is it, Margaret?" Arthur smiled, snapping his fingers.

From the side entrance, two federal marshals stepped forward, flanked by state prosecutors holding thick manila folders.
