Chapter 16 - The Ultimate Counter-Offer

I didn't flinch. I walked slowly toward the coffee table, looking down at the Swiss bank documents with cold detachment.
"You think you can waltz in here and blackmail me with offshore crumbs while Raymond rots in a cell?" I asked softly.
"It's not crumbs, Clara. It's half a billion dollars in liquid capital," Julian replied, his smile widening. "With my signature and yours, we can dissolve the remaining court injunctions, bypass Arthur Vance's corporate takeover, and split the international shipping lanes between us. You get your revenge, and I get my family throne back."
"You assume I want to partner with a Whitmore," I said, looking him dead in the eye.
"You have three children to raise, Clara," Julian pressed, leaning closer. "An empire requires more than just righteous anger. It requires a king."

Julian’s face instantly drained of color. He spun around, staring at the marshals. "What is the meaning of this? You can't touch me! I have diplomatic clearance!"
"Not when you enter the country under an assumed identity to launder offshore criminal assets," Arthur’s voice boomed as he stepped out of the elevator, adjusting his cuffs with a calm, terrifying smile. "Welcome back to America, Julian. The federal penitentiary has a lovely suite waiting right next to your nephew."
