Chapter 20 - The Final Reflection

As the camera shutters flashed and the applause of the crowd rose toward the evening sky, I looked out past the wrought-iron gates toward the quiet street where my old life had ended.

I remembered the frightened woman standing in the dark glass of that closed Greenwich boutique, clutching a single suitcase, wondering where she would sleep. I wanted to tell her that she didn't need to be afraid. I wanted to tell her that the cruelty of a broken marriage was only the opening chapter of an unstoppable destiny.

Arthur squeezed my hand gently, and my three children pressed close against my dress, their laughter echoing like music through the evening air.

Raymond was forgotten in a prison cell; Margaret was silenced by her own greed; and the empire that had once tried to crush me was now the very foundation upon which I built a legacy of justice and hope.

I raised my head high, caught the flash of the cameras, and smiled.

And mine was shining brighter than ever.
