Chapter 11 - The Inheritance Clause
Three days later, the official family council convened in the grand mahogany dining room. The heavy oak doors were locked tight, and the air smelled of old paper, cold coffee, and impending doom. Sitting at the head of the long table was family lawyer Harrison Vance, a stern man with wire-rimmed glasses who had served the estate for over forty years.
Eleanor sat to his right, looking hollowed out, her hands trembling as she held a thick document bound in dark blue leather. Kevin, having managed to hitch a ride back to the estate via a local bus, stood near the doorway like a disgraced schoolboy. He had been barred from taking a seat at the table.
"As per the original founding charter of Vance Holdings, signed by your grandfather in 1974," Harrison began, his deep, authoritative voice slicing through the silence, "any direct heir found guilty of financial fraud, gross public misconduct, or actions that actively threaten the reputation and structural integrity of the family corporate body is subject to immediate and permanent disinheritance."
Kevin’s face went completely white. He lurched forward, gripping the back of an empty chair. "Harrison, you can't be serious! That's an archaic clause meant for criminal syndicates, not—"
"It applies precisely to individuals who secretly siphon company assets to fund clandestine affairs and illicit lifestyles," Harrison interrupted coldly, sliding a certified document across the table. "As of midnight yesterday, your shares have been frozen, your corporate trust fund has been dissolved, and your name has been legally severed from the primary family registry."

"Mother, tell him he's crazy!" Kevin screamed, looking frantically toward Eleanor. "You can't let them do this to me! I'm your son!"
Eleanor slowly raised her eyes, looking at Kevin not with maternal warmth, but with a chilling, detached disappointment. "You stopped being my son the moment you decided to treat your pregnant wife like an animal in the freezing cold, Kevin. You brought this destruction upon yourself."
