Back at the estate, spring was beginning to break through the melting winter snow, painting the sprawling gardens in vibrant shades of green and gold. Inside the nursery on the second floor, the room was bathed in soft, warm morning sunlight. Cribs made of polished white oak, shelves stacked with soft pastel blankets, and framed ultrasound pictures filled the space with a quiet, peaceful joy.
I stood by the window, gently tracing the outline of my growing belly as I watched a pair of robins build a nest in the blooming cherry tree outside. My phone rested peacefully on the wooden dresser. There were no demanding texts, no toxic ultimatums, no manipulative games. Just absolute, liberating silence.
David had stepped up not just as a supportive brother-in-law, but as an indispensable partner in navigating the legal battlefield of the impending divorce. With Harrison’s legal backing, the divorce proceedings were moving at lightning speed, granting me full custody provisions, independent control of my personal assets, and a substantial settlement drawn directly from the corporate reserves before Kevin's shares were completely liquidated.
"You've got a visitor downstairs," David said softly, stepping into the nursery with a warm, gentle smile, holding a steaming mug of herbal tea.
