The crisp morning air of early summer carried the scent of freshly cut grass through the open windows of the courthouse downtown. I sat at the legal table, dressed in a sharp, elegant ivory blazer, looking calm, collected, and completely transformed. "Given the documented financial fraud, abandonment, and psychological endangerment committed by the respondent, the divorce is hereby granted under fault conditions."
The judge brought his gavel down with a sharp, decisive crack.
