Chapter 14 - The Ambush at Wellington Street"Stay here," Samuel ordered, jumping up and reaching for his secure radio comms device. "Marcus, code red. We have an unauthorized vehicle blocking the front drive."

There was only static on the other end.

A cold wave of dread washed over Samuel. He sprinted toward the front door, throwing it open just as four masked men in tactical gear stepped out of the van, armed with heavy suppressors.

"Clara, get the girls into the basement safe room now!" Samuel yelled, drawing his legal concealed carry firearm.

POP-POP-POP!

Bullets slammed into the wooden porch pillars, showering splinters across the entryway. Samuel fired back twice, striking the leading operative's shoulder and forcing the others to dive behind the front lawn's stone retaining wall.

These weren't common thugs. They were professional mercenaries sent by Richard Sterling’s remaining co-conspirators on the outside, desperate to secure the physical patent documents locked inside the house.
