Chapter 10 - The HorizonThe autumn wind whipped across the balcony of our new penthouse overlooking Central Park, rustling the golden leaves of the trees below.

It was Friday night, family movie night.

Lily sat cross-legged on the plush Persian rug, surrounded by half-eaten popcorn and a mountain of sketchbooks filled with skyscrapers, yellow taxis, and now, a new recurring character: a fierce-looking lion wearing a very expensive tailored suit and holding a little girl's hand.

Naomi stepped out onto the balcony, handing me a crystal tumbler of scotch before leaning against the glass railing beside me.

"You know," she said, looking out at the glittering Manhattan skyline twinkling against the twilight, "she asked me today if you were ever going to leave us."

My grip tightened slightly around the glass. I turned to look at her, my storm-gray eyes meeting hers with absolute certainty.

"And what did you tell her?"

May you like

Naomi smiled, her green eyes shining with a deep, unbreakable peace as she slipped her hand into mine, intertwining our fingers.

"I told her that some men leave to find power... but your father found something better. He found his way home."
