Chapter 9 - The ChoiceThree months later, the transition wasn't clean, and it certainly wasn't easy.

I handed over the daily operations of Moretti Holdings' darker ventures to a trusted council, liquidating our overseas assets and channeling billions into legitimate real estate and green energy startups across Manhattan. The underworld whispered that Dante Moretti had lost his edge, that love had made him weak.

Let them whisper.

I didn't care about the whispers anymore. Because every evening at 6:00 PM, I walked through the heavy wooden doors of the Williamsburg loft, kicked off my shoes, and heard the pitter-patter of tiny patent-leather shoes running across the hardwood floor.

"Daddy!"

Lily would launch herself into my arms, her dark curls bouncing, smelling of strawberry shampoo and kindergarten finger paints.

Naomi would be standing by the kitchen island, a glass of wine in her hand, smiling as she watched us wrestle on the oversized living room rug. We hadn't remarried yet, but the Atlanta hotel room ghosts were finally laid to rest. We were building something new—something real, honest, and entirely safe from the shadows of my past.

One evening, as Naomi curled up beside me on the sofa while Lily slept soundly upstairs in her new bedroom, she rested her head against my shoulder.

"You actually did it," she murmured, tracing the scarred lines of my palm. "You walked away from the throne."

May you like

"There's only one throne I ever cared about," I replied, pressing a kiss into her dark curls. "And I'm sitting right here."

Naomi laughed softly, the sound washing away every dark memory, every bullet, and every enemy I had ever fought.
