Chapter 7 - The Final Stand in the StudioThe acrid smell of cordite and burnt gunpowder filled the sunlit loft, mixing with the scent of spilled coffee and fresh paint.

Viktor stepped out from behind the kitchen island, his pistol aimed directly at the corner where Julie and Naomi were huddled shielding Lily.
"Drop your gun, Dante, or the girl and her mother go first," Viktor snarled, his face twisted into a mask of psychotic triumph.
My heart stopped. For a fraction of a second, the world froze. I saw Naomi looking up at me, her green eyes filled with a mixture of terror and an unspoken forgiveness. She wasn't blaming me anymore. She was just looking at the man she had loved and left, trusting him one last time.
I slowly lowered my pistol—not to surrender, but to drop my center of gravity.
"You're a coward, Viktor," I whispered, locking eyes with him.
Before Viktor could pull the trigger, the front window shattered inward in an explosion of flying glass and splintered steel framing.
A black tactical grappling hook slammed into the exposed brick wall, and Marcus, followed by two heavily armed Moretti operatives, dropped straight through the third-story window like avenging angels.
Marcus didn't hesitate. His suppressed rifle barked twice.
Thud. Thud.

Viktor stumbled backward, dropping his weapon as two clean rounds pierced his chest. He collapsed against Naomi’s pristine white canvas easel, sliding down into a pool of crimson red paint that blended seamlessly with his own blood.
Silence descended upon the loft, broken only by the sound of sirens wailing in the distance up on Bedford Avenue.
