Chapter 2 - THE SILENT SLAUGHTERâThe entire platoon was goneâand the snakes left only one survivor.âTrembling violently, Alex stepped over the sea of parting cobras and walked into the heart of Outpost 4.

The perimeter guard tower was empty. The mess hall was silent. He pushed open the flap of the main barracks, his stomach churning with sickening dread. Inside, forty soldiers lay motionless in their cots. There were no signs of struggle, no empty shell casings, no cries for help.
Only microscopic puncture marks on their necks and swollen, blackened limbs.
While Alex slept peacefully in his tent, his "pets" had hunted. Guided by thermal vision and silent lethality, the swarm had infiltrated every structure in the base, executing a coordinated, silent massacre. They had wiped out an entire military squad in a single night.
And they had spared only one person: the man who fed them.

Alex sank to his knees, clutching his head as tears burned his eyes. He wasn't a hero who tamed nature; he was an accidental accomplice to mass murder. The bread scraps and stolen rations hadn't domesticated the cobras. They had trained them to recognize his scent as sacredâand everyone else as prey.
Suddenly, a metallic click echoed from the radio tower behind him.
