Chapter 3 - THE MARK OF THE TREASON“A barrel aimed at his forehead... and a swarm ready to strike.”“Don’t move, you traitorous bastard!”

Alex spun around to see Private Miller—the camp’s radio operator—climbing down from the emergency bunker, his rifle shaking violently as he aimed it straight at Alex’s chest. Miller’s face was pale, his uniform drenched in cold sweat.

“Miller! Wait! It’s not what you think!” Alex raised his hands, pleading.

“I saw you!” Miller screamed, tears streaking through the dirt on his cheeks. “I saw you feeding them every night! You brought them here! You unleashed these monsters on us! You murdered the whole unit!”

Before Alex could explain, a low, menacing hiss filled the clearing.

From the shadows, from under the military trucks, and from the tall grass, dozens of hood-flared cobras emerged. The giant mother cobra slid silently up behind Alex, her golden eyes fixed on Miller. She raised her body high, echoing Alex’s posture like an undead bodyguard.

“Shoot him!” Miller sobbed, squeezing the trigger.
