Chapter 7 - The Net Closes“No…” Dominic whispered, scrolling frantically through the articles. “No, that’s impossible. Our lawyers have protected us for decades!”

“Your lawyers were paid with tainted syndicate funds, Dominic,” Marin explained calmly, walking over to the window and looking out over the rain-slicked city streets of Lakehaven. “When I arrived in this hospital four days ago, I wasn't here to assassinate your father. The Broken Crown doesn't kill targets in public hospitals anymore. We let justice do the work. We simply provided the federal prosecutor with every encrypted bank statement, offshore routing number, and confession letter your father ever hid.”

Bertrand groaned, curling into a ball on the floor. “You destroyed us… You systematically dismantled everything in four days.”

“I gave you four days of peace,” Marin corrected softly. “More than you gave the families you ruined.”

Heavy footsteps echoed loudly down the hallway outside Room 412.

“FBI! Federal agents! Nobody move!”

The heavy wooden door burst open, and half a dozen armed federal agents, led by a stern-faced senior marshal, flooded the room.

“Bertrand Callaway?” the lead agent demanded, holding up an arrest warrant. “You are under arrest for federal racketeering, grand larceny, and corporate conspiracy.”

As the agents moved in to cuff the weeping real estate developer, the lead agent paused, his eyes falling upon Marin Kessler standing by the window.

The agent immediately snapped to attention, giving her a subtle, crisp nod of profound respect—a gesture of absolute subordination that only high-ranking intelligence officers or syndicate lords commanded.

Marin returned the nod with a single, slow blink.

Then, she turned and walked calmly past the agents, heading out the door before anyone could ask her a single question.
