Chapter 4 - The Genetic ProofTwo hours later, inside the sterile, high-tech medical laboratory of the Vance security compound in Manhattan, Owen and Lily sat on an examination table while a nurse gently swabbed their cheeks.

Lily didn't flinch. She kept her small hand wrapped firmly around Owen's wrist, her eyes darting around the high-tech equipment.
Vance stood behind the glass partition, watching alongside Dr. Vance, the family's chief geneticist, who stared at the real-time sequencing monitor.
"The markers are definitive," Dr. Vance said, her voice filled with quiet shock. "Mitochondrial DNA matches David's genetic archive with a 99.98% certainty. These children aren't just related to your family. Owen is a direct biological clone of David's primary lineage. They are your niece and nephew."
Vance closed his eyes for a fraction of a second, the heavy weight of reality crashing down. For five years, he had believed he was the last living male of the Vance line.
He walked back into the examination room and knelt down in front of the two children.
"Hey, guys," Vance said softly, his voice losing its boardroom edge.

Owen looked up, his big brown eyes studying Vance's face. "Are you going to put us in a different house now?"
"No," Vance promised, placing a hand gently over Owen's shoulder. "Never. You're staying with me. And nobody is ever going to take that bear away from you."
