Chapter 5 - The Hidden CompartmentThat evening, back at the sprawling Vance estate, the heavy oak doors closed, shutting out the rainy night.

While housekeepers settled Owen and Lily into a sunlit suite on the second floor, Vance walked down to the private family archive room in the basement. He carried the old brown teddy bear with him.

He sat down at the heavy mahogany desk and examined the bear under a magnifying glass. Using a pair of precision surgical scissors, he carefully snipped the blue thread at the base of the paw.

Clink.

Something small and metallic dropped onto the wooden desktop.

It was a micro-SD card, wrapped tightly in a waterproof plastic sleeve. Etched onto the casing was a set of GPS coordinates and a single handwritten word: TRUTH.

He slid the micro-card directly into his secure desktop terminal, bypassing the estate's firewall. A single video file popped up on the screen.

Vance hit play.

The screen flickered. The video was grainy, shot in the basement of a safe house five years ago.

And the man sitting in front of the camera... was David Vance. Alive.
