Chapter 17 - DANIEL'S CHOICEThe revelation was a devastating blow. Everything I believed about my father, my heritage, and the empire I had bled to protect was built on a foundation of horrific lies.

I returned to the estate feeling like a ghost walking through a mausoleum. The grand 12,000-square-foot mansion felt colder than ever.

Grace sat beside me on the sofa, gently dressing the wound on my arm. She didn't press me for answers; her quiet presence was the only thing holding me together.

"Grace," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I spent my whole life honoring the legacy of a monster."

"You are not your father, Daniel," Grace said softly, lifting my chin so I had to look at her. "You have a choice. You can keep protecting a corrupt legacy, or you can tear it down and build something honest."

"If I go public with these files," I looked into her eyes, "the Whitfield Group will be dismantled. Every asset will be seized. We’ll lose everything... the mansion, the money, the status. We will have nothing."

Grace offered a small, radiant smile.

"I fell in love with Daniel Whitfield, the man who risked his life to save my daughter and me," she said, gently lacing her fingers through mine. "I never cared about your money or your name. Whether you're a driver or a gardener, my place is by your side."

Her words burned away the darkness in my chest. I realized then that my greatest asset was never my guards or my bank accounts—it was the unconditional love of the woman sitting beside me.

I stood up, walked to my desk, and picked up the phone to call Special Agent Miller.

"Miller," I said, my voice firmer than it had ever been. "Schedule a national press conference for tonight. I'm turning over the entire Crown database."
