Chapter 21 - The Anniversary of the Sanctuary

The snow melted away under a brilliant spring sun, marking exactly one year since the grand opening of the Vance Family Sanctuary.

The courtyard was alive with color as hundreds of daffodils and tulips bloomed along the gravel pathways. Inside the main hall, families gathered for a celebratory community luncheon. Children laughed as they ran between tables, while mothers shared stories of recovery, career training, and financial independence.

I stood near the back of the hall, holding a steaming cup of coffee, watching the vibrant life of the community we had built together.

Elizabeth walked up beside me, resting a hand gently on my shoulder. "Can you believe it's been a full year since we cut the ribbon?" she asked, her eyes shining with pride.

"It feels like a lifetime ago," I murmured, watching little Tristan—now an energetic, chatty toddler—handing out paper flowers to everyone he passed. "When I sat in that freezing garage two years ago, I thought my life was completely over. I thought everything Tristan and I built had turned to dust."

"You built something stronger," Elizabeth said firmly. "You built a fortress of compassion."
