Chapter 5 - The Queen’s GambitThree days later, the penthouse was no longer a sanctuary of luxury; it was a fortress under siege.

The media circus outside the lobby doors was deafening. Reporters, camera crews, and financial bloggers camped out on the icy pavement, shouting questions about embezzlement, insider trading, and the sudden meteoric rise of Northstar Dominion. Inside, the utilities had been restricted following the asset freeze, leaving the sprawling apartment cold and dim.

Sienna Vey was packing her Louis Vuitton luggage with frantic, trembling hands, her sophisticated composure completely shredded.

"I’m getting out of here, Adrian," Sienna snapped, tossing a silk blouse into a suitcase. "My agency in New York is already distancing themselves from my association with you. Your name is toxic. The whole city is laughing at you!"

Adrian sat motionless on the edge of the velvet sofa, staring blankly at his blank smartphone screen. He hadn't slept in seventy-two hours. The man who had once believed himself an untouchable titan of industry now looked hollowed out, his skin gray, his tailored suit wrinkled and damp from pacing the balcony in the sleet.

"You said she was dependent on me," Adrian whispered, his voice cracking like dry wood. "You said she was just a cautious little shadow who would crawl back."

Sienna whipped around, her face twisted in a sneer of pure contempt. "Me? You blamed her for everything! You let me take credit for her work because your fragile ego couldn't handle the truth that your wife was smarter than you! Don't you dare blame me for your monumental stupidity!"

She zipped her suitcase shut with a violent tug, grabbed her coat, and stormed toward the private elevator. The doors slid open, she stepped inside without a backward glance, and vanished.

Adrian didn't even flinch.

At that exact moment, the private security intercom chimed softly.

Adrian frowned, dragging his feet toward the wall panel. He pressed the receiver. "Who is it?"

"Mr. Blackwell," a crisp, unfamiliar female voice answered. "This is Odessa Crane’s office. Northstar Dominion’s executive committee is convening an emergency restructuring hearing at the downtown offices. You have been formally summoned to appear as a witness in the corporate dissolution proceedings. A car is waiting downstairs."

Adrian’s jaw tightened. Pride flared like a dying ember in his chest. "Tell Odessa Crane and my ex-wife that I won't come. I have legal options left. I’ll fight them in federal court until—"

"Mr. Blackwell," the voice interrupted smoothly, completely unfazed by his threat. "If you do not step into the vehicle waiting at your curb within five minutes, the U.S. Attorney’s office will execute the remaining sealed indictments regarding the 2021 offshore acquisitions. Mrs. Blackwell graciously delayed those filings by twenty-four hours to give you a chance to hear her terms in person."

Adrian’s breath hitched. The room began to spin.

There was no escape left. The game was over.
