Chapter 19 - Foundations of Glass and Steel

Six months later, the Shaw estate had completely transformed. The heavy iron security gates were gone, replaced by sprawling, sunlit gardens and an open-door community center funded entirely by the newly established Carter-Shaw Foundation, dedicated to supporting families recovering from corporate and syndicate exploitation.

Inside the main dining hall, the long mahogany table—once a place of silent terror, deadly ultimatums, and fearful obedience—was now filled with laughter, the clinking of wine glasses, and the bright, infectious giggles of a little girl drawing pictures with crayons.

Mia stood beside Aaron near the bay windows, watching Declan struggle to tie a pink ribbon into Penny’s hair with clumsy, unaccustomed fingers.

"You know, he's actually getting better at that," Mia laughed softly, leaning her head against Aaron's shoulder.

"Don't let him hear you say that," Aaron chuckled. "His ego as the terrifying mafia boss is very fragile these days."

Declan looked up across the room, catching their eyes. He didn't scowl, and he didn't turn away with a cold glance. Instead, he smiled—a wide, genuine, unreserved grin that reached all the way to his eyes.
