Chapter 7 - The Cleansing Fire

Dawn broke over the sprawling Shaw estate, painting the horizon in shades of bruised purple and burning gold. Inside the compound, the fires of a total restructuring were already burning.

Captains, capos, and regional directors who had taken bribes from Graham were rounded up in the courtyard, stripped of their rings and weapons, and handed over to federal authorities via an anonymous leak that wiped out half of the rival syndicates in a single coordinated sweep. Declan sat behind his massive mahogany desk, reviewing the new asset distribution logs.

Aaron stood by the window, sipping black coffee, while Mia and Penny slept soundly in the adjoining private suite upstairs.

"You're giving up half the ports?" Aaron asked, raising an eyebrow as he scanned the transfer documents.

"We're going legitimate," Declan said, signing his name with a heavy fountain pen. "The old ways died tonight, Aaron. We build a clean empire, or we don't build one at all."

Aaron walked over and placed a hand on his brother's shoulder. "Mia told me what happened last night. She said Penny ran straight up to you and called you 'Papa'."

Declan paused, a rare, faint smile touching the corners of his mouth. "She has good instincts. Better than mine."

"She needs an uncle," Aaron said quietly. "And you need a family that doesn't hide behind contracts and guns."

Declan looked up at his brother, realizing that the cold, isolated fortress he had built around his soul had finally been breached—not by enemies, but by a five-year-old girl in a pale blue dress and an oversized winter coat.
