Chapter 5 - The Confession

Graham dropped his empty submachine gun, his hands trembling slightly as he stared down the barrel of Declan's pistol. Blood seeped from a graze on his shoulder where a stray round had clipped him.
"Go ahead," Graham whispered, a bitter, desperate smile twisting his lips. "Pull the trigger. The moment you kill me, the encrypted dead-man's switch I set up will automatically transmit all of our offshore accounts, money laundering routes, and federal informant lists to every major news outlet and the FBI field office in downtown."
Declan didn't pull the trigger. He walked forward, his boots crunching on glass and wood splinters, and pressed the muzzle of the gun squarely against the bridge of Graham's nose.
"You think I care about federal indictments?" Declan asked softly. "You think prison scares a man who has lived in hell for ten years?"
"You care about your family's name," Graham hissed, sweating profusely now. "If the FBI gets those files, the Shaw empire collapses by sunrise. Every asset, every port, every enterprise—gone. You'll be ruined."
"Let it burn," Declan replied without a flicker of hesitation. "An empire built on lies deserves to turn to ash."
Before Graham could lunge or reach for a backup blade, the heavy steel reinforced doors of the study shuddered under a massive exterior impact. Thud. Thud. Thud.
It wasn't Graham's men. The rhythmic, synchronized blows sounded like a breaching charge deployed by heavy tactical units.
"What is that?" Graham muttered, his arrogance completely evaporating. "I locked the override codes!"
"You locked the house from the inside," a deep, raspy voice echoed through the estate's intercom system. "You forgot that the outer perimeter belongs to the old guard."
The steel doors blew outward in a blinding flash of white light and concussive sound. A tactical flashbang grenade skidded across the ruined carpet, detonating with a deafening pop that blinded everyone in the room.
When the smoke cleared, a towering figure stood in the wreckage of the doorway, clad in matte-black tactical gear, holding a customized assault rifle. He pulled off his reinforced Kevlar helmet, revealing a scarred, rugged face with piercing green eyes identical to Declan's.

Mia gasped, clutching Penny so hard the little girl woke up crying.
"Hello, brother," Aaron Shaw said, stepping over the threshold.
